4th of July Safety Tips

Summer is in full swing, and it's time to celebrate annual 4th of July BBQ's, pool parties, and firework displays. Let's cover a few basic safety tips to ensure everyone can truly enjoy themselves. While this is not a complete list, it a good start for staying safe this Holiday.

Alcohol Safety

-Don't Drink and Drive - obvious enough, but other than injuring or killing someone avoid getting a DUI and utilize the many ride sharing options in the area. With that being said, please refrain from riding the dock-less bikes, and electric scooters while impaired.

-If you've had a few drinks, best to leave the fireworks to someone who is sober.

Weather and Environment Safety

-The forecast is calling for high 90's and over 50% humidity: please stay hydrated during outdoor activities and don't forget your sunscreen!

-We all know the Carolina's are full of critters when the sun goes down. Whether your planning on catching fireflies or enjoying a firework display ensure you don't get bitten by unwanted pests by remembering bug spray.

Pet Safety

-Ensure your pets have proper up-to-date ID tags and take a current photo of your pets -just incase.

Leave your pets at home during firework displays and consider putting the, in a safe, escape proof room.

Firework Safety

-Make sure fireworks are legal in your area before buying or using them.

In North Carolina fireworks that explode or project in the air are illegal. Generally novelty fireworks, fountains, and sparklers that do not explode or leave the ground are permitted.

-But even sparklers can reach temperatures of about 2,000 degrees. Best to always have an adult supervise firework activities.
